But what am I going to wear?!

Are you ready to return to running but feel like you have nothing to wear?! You don’t need anything fancy to get back to running. However, feeling good in your clothes can give you an extra boost of confidence when you need it most. But high price tags can be hard to swallow if you aren’t sure of your size or exact needs. Here is how I use ThredUp to find cute and functional workout clothes at a reasonable price.

Say "yes" to previously loved workout clothes

Ok, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Yes, you can buy awesome, previously-loved workout gear. Before you judge, let me tell you why.

High quality workout gear at low price points

Quality control

First, ThredUp inspects all clothing before posting it online. They give you basic information like color, size, cut, fabrics, dimensions, and any signs of wear and tear. So you have a decent idea of what you are getting.

Play hard, wash hard

Second, high quality workout gear should be able to handle a washing machine cycle as well as it handles a sweat session. I still wear some of the lululemon clothing I bought when I worked there a decade ago, and I promise I am not a laundry goddess. I throw everything together in a regular wash/dry cycle with regular detergent, and it comes out looking great every time.

More bang for your buck

Third, with a lower price point, you can get more for your budget. As your mileage increases, your size or preferences may change. So its great to have a low-cost and high-quality way to keep refreshing that workout wardrobe.

Athletic gear brands I love on ThredUp

Go with what you know

I have the most success buying athletic gear on ThredUp when I am purchasing brands I already know and love. I know their sizing, fit, and features. ThredUp is not an athletic-focused retailer, so they doesn’t necessarily know all of the details that make a product attractive to a runner. They don’t point out some of our favorite features, like reflectivity or an extra pocket to hold your phone. Therefore, being somewhat familiar with a brand’s products, can make it easier to do a little detective work and find items with the details that matter to you.

My favorite workout clothes brands

Zella and lululemon are my most common brand searches when looking for consignment workout gear. I buy a lot of lululemon cool racerback tanks, via ThredUp, because its a product they have had for years, comes in a lot of colors, and is really versatile. I also recently discovered lululemon now has their own secondhand-clothing site. I have not had a chance to use it yet. Check out the lululemon like new website for info on buying or trading in previously loved lululemon clothing and accessories.

For Zella, a Nordstrom made brand, I am constantly on the lookout for products resembling the Zella Live in High Waist Pocket Bike Shorts and Live In High Waist Pocket 7/8 Leggings because “pockets” and a high waist, need I say more?! You can often find Zella products at great prices on the Nordstrom website, too. Make sure to take advantage of their major sales and discounts when products are headed towards their off-season.
